Star Wars: Rebellion – The Empire vs the Rebellion Across the Entire Galaxy
Control the Empire or the Rebel Alliance across a full galaxy map — find the hidden base, complete secret missions, and wage the most epic Star Wars experience available on a table.
📋 Game Details
Star Wars: Rebellion is the most epic Star Wars board game ever made. Designed by Corey Konieczka and published by Fantasy Flight Games in 2016, it puts 2 to 4 players in command of the original trilogy's two great factions across a full galaxy map — the Galactic Empire hunting for the hidden Rebel base, and the Rebel Alliance surviving long enough to inspire a galaxy-wide uprising.
This is not a casual game. Sessions run 3 to 4 hours, the setup takes 30 minutes, and the rules require a committed learning investment. But for Star Wars fans and strategy gamers who make that investment, Rebellion delivers something no other Star Wars game approaches — an experience that genuinely feels like you're living the original trilogy.
Players who experience Star Wars: Rebellion consistently describe the same feeling — the stories that emerge naturally from the game's systems are unlike anything scripted. The time Vader captured Han Solo on an Imperial mission while Luke was racing to rescue Leia. The last-round probe finding the hidden base with one card left in the deck. These moments don't happen in other games.

Empire vs Rebel Alliance
What Is Star Wars: Rebellion?
Rebellion is a massively asymmetric strategy game for 2 to 4 players. The galaxy is represented by a large two-panel map of over 30 systems — Tatooine, Hoth, Coruscant, Mustafar, and more — each of which can be occupied, mobilized, or contested. The Empire controls most of the galaxy at the start. The Rebels are hiding.
The Empire wins by finding and destroying the Rebel base. They search the galaxy with probe droids — revealing probe cards from the hidden base deck until the base is found, then launching a military assault. The Rebels win by advancing their reputation track high enough — building galactic support through missions, objectives, and surviving Imperial aggression — before the base is found.
The game plays best at 2 players — one controlling the entire Empire, one the entire Rebel Alliance. At 4, each faction splits across two players, which works but reduces the individual agency that makes the game special.
What Makes It Exceptional
Hidden Base
The Rebel player secretly places their base at the start — the Empire deploys probes to find it. The tension of the search is central to every session.
Hero Missions
Luke, Leia, Han, Vader — every iconic character can be sent on secret missions that affect the entire board. Character abilities feel authentically Star Wars.
Space Combat
Fleet battles across the galaxy use a dice system that feels appropriately chaotic — Star Wars battles have always been decided by unexpected moments.
Emergent Stories
No two games of Rebellion tell the same story. The systems generate Star Wars narratives that feel earned rather than scripted.
