What Is Root?

Root is a competitive asymmetric strategy game for 2 to 4 players. Players control one of four factions competing to reach 30 victory points first. The board is a woodland map divided into clearings connected by paths. Control of clearings, building structures, and completing faction-specific objectives all generate points.

How Does It Play?

Each faction takes their turn following their own unique sequence of actions. The Marquise places workers and builds structures. Combat uses custom dice with a clever attacker/defender mechanic that rewards tactical positioning. Cards are used for special actions and can be crafted into powerful items.
