What Is Kingdomino?

Kingdomino is a tile-drafting and kingdom-building game for 2 to 4 players. Each player is a king (or queen) building a 5×5 kingdom by connecting terrain tiles — forests, lakes, wheat fields, mines, and more.

The twist: tiles are scored by multiplying the size of a connected terrain group by the number of crown symbols on those tiles. A small area with many crowns can outscore a huge area with none. This simple scoring system creates surprisingly deep decisions.

The entire rulebook fits on one page. Yet the game rewards planning, spatial awareness, and smart drafting — skills that develop naturally through play.

How Does It Play?

Each round, a row of dominoes is revealed. Players take turns drafting one tile — but the order you pick in this round determines your pick order next round. Pick the best tile now and you go last next time. Pick a weaker tile and you get first choice next round.

This drafting tension is the heart of the game. Do you take the tile you need, or set yourself up for a better pick next round? Kids grasp this dilemma quickly and love debating it.

Once drafted, you place the tile in your kingdom, making sure at least one end connects to a matching terrain already placed (or to your starting castle). The game ends when all tiles are drafted and placed. Highest score wins.

A full game takes 15–25 minutes. It's fast enough to play twice back to back, which your kids will almost certainly ask for.
